Joe Ruby (conceived Joseph Clemens Ruby) was an American illustrator, TV proofreader, essayist, and maker. He was the co-maker of the notorious animation character Scooby-Doo.

He started his liveliness profession at Walt Disney Studios in their activity program. He moved out of the liveliness division to the Disney article office as a music proofreader. 

At Hanna Barbara Editorial, Joe met Ken Spears. They shaped a composing organization and composed a spec content, which leads to being employed as staff authors at Hanna-Barbara Productions. At H&B, they proceeded to make the famous character and TV arrangement, Scooby-Doo. 

In 1977, Joe and Ken propelled their own liveliness studio Ruby-Spears Productions. Ruby-Spears delivered many hit energized arrangements including Fangface, Thundarr the Barbarian, Mr. T, Plasticman, Chuck Norris, and earned a few Emmy Award designations and a Humanitas Award.

Hanna-Barbera's parent organization Taft Entertainment procured Ruby-Spears in 1981, and its index went to Turner Broadcasting in 1991. 

Subsequent to moving on from Fairfax High School, Joe enrolled in the US Navy during the Korean War where he served on a destroyer as a sonar administrator. After the war, Joe kept on serving in the Marine Reserves.
