Mariano Rivera is originally from Panama City, Panama. He came into this world on 29th November of the year 1969 which has now made him reach at the age of 49. Rivera was born as the 2nd child among 4 children to his parents Mariano Rivera Palacios and Delia Jiron.
His other family members include his elder sister Delia and two younger brothers, Giraldo and Alvaro. Supporter by the job of his father as the captain of a fishing boat, his family resided in Puerto Caimito that is a Panamanian fishing village which Mariano has described as poor.
While he was a young man, Rivera played baseball and soccer along with his friends on the beach during the low tide. His favorite sport was soccer and Pele was his favorite athlete. For playing baseball, Mariano and his friends substituted cardboard milk cartons for the gloves and the three branches for bats.
For balls, they used to tape wads of shredded fishing nets. Mariano used makeshift equipment until his dad bought the first leather glove when he was at the age of 12. According to him, although he stayed out of trouble during his youth, he was hanging with wrong people.

In the year 1988, Mariano joined Panama Oeste which is a local amateur baseball team. He played for them until making his debut with the New York Yankees in 1995. Rivera was then converted to relief pitcher from starting pitcher in the rookie season.
He also has a breakthrough season in 1996 for quickly becoming one of the best relievers of MLB. In 1999, 2001, and 2004, Mariano led the league in saves with the sharp-moving 90s mile per hour fastball which frequently broke the bats of rivals.
