The 56-year old, Mike Ness is most famous for being a songwriter for the punk rock band Social Distortion. The band was formed in 1978. He co-founded the band with Casey Royer in 1978 after being inspired by The Sex Pistols.

Their first album Mommy's Little Monster was released in 1983 on 13th Floor Records, which was owned their manager at the time, Monk Rock two years later.

Being in a band for long enough, Ness decided he wanted to go solo and try something new on his own. He released his first solo album, Cheating at Solitaire in 1999. He has been mostly seen playing electric guitars, acoustic guitars, and amplifiers. His songs are represented by Downtown Music Publishing.
